Geothermal energy is not an energy storage technique but focuses on utilizing the thermal energy present in our deep underground. Water with high temperatures is extracted from depths ranging from hundreds to thousands of meters. This energy is used either for heating or, at very high temperatures, for generating electricity. A combination is also possible. This technique can be further optimized with the help of HT-ATES.
